“Improving student understanding and preparation for complex, multidisciplinary practicals “
Maastricht University; Regenerative Medicine & Technology (RMT)

The challenge

The challenge we faced was creating a 2-year lab skills program, covering multidisciplinary practicals along different fields of expertise. The practicals are quite condensed, and good preparation is vital for the execution, as well as understanding of the practical.

The transformation

Based on experiences within the BMS program at Maastricht University, we decided to employ LabBuddy to improve student learning, and let them grasp the increasingly complex practicals, ranging from biochemistry, engineering, cell culture, and advanced technologies in regenerative medicine.

The final result

In phases we were able to implement LabBuddy for the various practical themes. As not all courses could be done immediately, we could also observe a clear improvement in preparation and understanding from students when students prepared in LabBuddy. Especially for the more complex practicals, students greatly valued the learning experience through LabBuddy.

Webinar: Enhancing lab education with LabBuddy

Following the inspiring Present-day Practicals Webinar Series, we’re hosting a dedicated LabBuddy webinar. LabBuddy provides an e-learning solution to support students in preparing before the start of the practical work, while working in the lab, and to guide them during the processing of their results after the practical work. During this session, Lukas Lätsch from ETH Zurich and Lauren Deneyer from EhB (Brussels) will share their experiences.
