University of Amsterdam
“Empowering students to think critically, design effectively and learn deeply.”

The challenge

Many students came to the lab unprepared, making it difficult to understand the experiment’s bigger picture. Instead of planning with the full process in mind, they only grasped its purpose midway through the practical.

The transformation

We created an e-learning environment with a digital lab manual, including protocols, theoretical explanations, and instructional videos. Students designed experiments and answered questions on key concepts and decisions, boosting their engagement and understanding.

The final result

Students valued LabBuddy and the course structure, gaining a clearer understanding of the experiment and the links between each step. The setup supported their decision-making. Moving forward, we aim to increase autonomy by letting them plan their own experiment schedules.
