“Better prepared students make all the difference!”

The challenge

Better prepared students. Often, unprepared students enter the laboratory, causing considerable delays where lab time should be spent on executing experiments instead of repeating theory, explaining hazardous situations and how to use the equipment.

The transformation

We changed our curriculum into a blended learning approach where LabBuddy takes control of the preparation phase of the student. Students master and apply theory in creating their own experiment design with supported feedback. A lab manual is no longer provided.

The final result

Every student enters the lab with the same level of preparation and knowledge and starts working at experiments individually. However, as a teacher, I see more involvement, fewer mistakes and more motivated students asking interesting questions.

Webinar: Enhancing lab education with LabBuddy

Following the inspiring Present-day Practicals Webinar Series, we’re hosting a dedicated LabBuddy webinar. LabBuddy provides an e-learning solution to support students in preparing before the start of the practical work, while working in the lab, and to guide them during the processing of their results after the practical work. During this session, Lukas Lätsch from ETH Zurich and Lauren Deneyer from EhB (Brussels) will share their experiences.
