The challenge

Students that know what is coming. When starting the practical, basically none of the students had so much as glanced at the protocol. This meant a great deal of effort from the teachers, to make the practical worthwhile everybody’s time.

The transformation

Students come in and know the assay they are going to perform. With their self-prepared workflow, it is easy to find the steps and keep track of the experiment. Now, teachers can take more time for in depth explanation.

The final result

The practicals run smoother, as prepared students better understand what they are doing, and the teachers can help with the why. Student feedback went from “I had no idea what was going on” to “I liked it, though the ice is melting during the practical”.
