Our Commitment
LabBuddy is an online e-learning platform that supports students and teachers during practical laboratory education. We want our platform to be accessible to as many students as possible during practical laboratory education, including students with disabilities and specific learning needs.
As a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME), LabBuddy is not legally required to fully comply with WCAG 2.1. However, we consider accessibility an important part of good educational software and take it into account when developing and improving our platform.
Conformance Status
Our platform is largely compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
LabBuddy is a platform where teachers and educational institutions create and upload their own learning materials. While LabBuddy offers features that support accessible content, the accessibility of this content remains the responsibility of the content creator and cannot be fully controlled by LabBuddy.
Accessibility Measures
LabBuddy incorporates accessibility features to support a broad range of users. The platform:
- supports browser zoom and responsive layouts;
- avoids relying on colour alone to convey information;
- uses clear and consistent navigation and page layouts;
- allows users to work at their own pace without strict time limits;
- minimises flashing or distracting visual effects;
- supports the use of common touch and pointer-based devices.
We are aware of a number of limitations:
- Some drag-and-drop functions in ExperD cannot be operated using a keyboard only. We do support group work, in this way students can help each other.
- We do not provide dyslexia-friendly fonts, but we do support the add-on extensions e.g. Mobile Dyslexic – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-US)
- Some interface elements may not provide sufficient contrast for all users with visual impairments. Because these elements have limited significance as learning signals, a trade-off has been made between accessibility requirements and overall usability.
Accessibility is an ongoing process. We continue to improve LabBuddy where practical and technically feasible, while maintaining the interactive nature of laboratory education.
We welcome feedback from users and educational institutions to help us improve the accessibility of our platform.
Declaration
LabBuddy is committed to making its platform accessible to a broad range of users. Although full WCAG 2.1 compliance is not required for our organisation, we actively work to improve accessibility and to support students with different needs.
Our platform is largely compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA and will continue to improve its accessibility where practical and in response to user needs.
